Java Chaat Cafe' signed up over a year ago for the new Google Voice and a few days ago, we received our much-anticipated invitation. Huzzah!
Our love/hate relationship with Google is no secret, but so far, this service has earned major kudos for delivering more punch than expected. Is it perfect? No, the written transcripts occasionally deliver hilarious results, especially with those friends and family who "uhh", mumble, or dither about when leaving messages, but thanks to the accompanying recordings ( .WAV files? ), there's no doubt what's on Mum's mind when she calls.
Fav feature of the moment: call blocking -- love it. Now, the eedgits who still haven't figured out "Cindy Sue" isn't at this number -- despite hearing our business announcement fifty zillion times -- won't even show up on the radar; they go straight to "blocked" or "spam".
Give us a week or so more to play with the easy-to-use features and we'll offer you a full review very soon. Meanwhile, if you haven't signed up for an invitation yet, STOP DITHERING and do it now!
Another nice touch from Google Voice is the "Call Me" widget they provide subscribers for embedding at their blogs, websites, and emails. It isn't customizable yet, but early reports around the web show several folks have already begun taking advantage of Open Platform to tinker with making a more fashion-forward widget. We chose to go with our own Voki adaptation and you'll find our "spokesperson" in the left column of this page, below the customary Vox info. Click on the triangular button for our new Google Voice number.
Back in a few days with the 411 on our Google Voice experience. Ciao!
